The Lake Braddock Wrestling team has had some recent success this season. Led by new head coach Joe Ibanez, many players were able to improve their game with new tactics. The top wrestler this year is Ethan Bluesteen who has increasingly leveled up his skills during a successful season.
New wrestling Coach Ibanez has revitalized the wrestling program with his extensive experience and dedication to the sport. Throughout the season, wrestling was able to place high in each competition they attended.
Team highlights from the season include the Highlander Duals competition where Bluesteen and Matthew Dani both finished with a 5-0 record. In addition, wrestling competed in the largest wrestling competition War on the Shore where our highest individual athlete placed 7th in a 64 man bracket.
In the postseason, wrestling was able to compete well in both districts and regionals. During the regional championship, Bluesteen was able to place first in his weight class.
Four athletes from wrestling are advancing to the state tournament being held on February 22nd. At the tournament, athletes will need to win three matches in order to reach the state finals being held in Virginia beach.
