SGA create Senior Happy Days

“Don’t Worry, Be Happy.” The words of Bob Marley best summarize the message that SGA is trying to send to the Class of 2016.

The Student Government Association at LB created Senior Happy Days as a new way to honor seniors with recognition on the Morning Bru, candy and a card.

“Last year a few of us from SGA went over to Westfield High School,” SGA board member Holly Leinz said. “We actually got to walk around with them, and see how they worked their happy days. We really liked the idea so we brought it back.”

It isn’t hard to recognize who’s happy day it is at LB. Balloons are often tied to backpacks and displayed as a badge of honor.

“My happy day experience was interesting because it was the day I had a physics test so the balloon got delivered in my seventh period,” senior Ayman Farid said. “It was cool.”

Senior Alyssa Rucker felt the same way.

“I didn’t realize it was my senior happy day right away actually,” Rucker said. “I just saw the Morning Bru, and I was really surprised. It was the third happy day that we had so I still didn’t know how they worked. They came to my fifth period. Then, I kept my balloon for the rest of the day so that was pretty cool.”

The goal of Senior Happy Days is to give seniors a day to feel special. A lot of students don’t have a birthday during the school year, so this is a way to “lift spirits” throughout the school year, Leinz said.

Based on the opinions of seniors Farid and Leinz, this goal was met.
“Everyone loves balloons and candy,” Farid said. “It’s a nice way to make someone feel special.”
