LB remains undefeated after victory over TC Williams

by John Lorence

Riding a five game winning streak, the Bruins traveled to Alexandria to take on the TC Williams Titans on Saturday afternoon. The Bruin’s undefeated record was put it to the test, but came out victorious over the Titans with a score of 33-12.

“We had a great week of practice leading into the game,” junior Lamont Atkins said. “The coaches always have a great game plan for each game.”

The scoring opened up on a pick six thrown by the Bruins, followed by a blocked extra point that put the Titans up 6-0 over LB. On the Bruin’s next drive, junior Lamont Atkins ran in the Bruin’s first score from 40 yards out. The game was tied up at six after a blocked extra point by senior Nick Bruhn. Following a 4th down stop by both teams, Atkins scored his second touchdown of the first half. The touchdown was scored after sacking TC’s quarterback and forcing a fumble, then returning it for a touchdown. After another missed extra point and another TC touchdown, the game was tied at 12 entering halftime.

“I felt disappointed [at the half] in how we were playing,” junior Ibrahim Mansaray said. “But [I was] confident we’d dominate the second half.”

After the break, LB forced a fumble in TC territory, leading to a 1 yard touchdown run. The run gave the Bruins a 19-12 lead, with 5:04 left in the third quarter. On the next Bruin drive, senior Peyton Scott ran in for a 54 yard score, giving LB a 26-12 lead into the fourth quarter.

After several failed fourth down attempts by both teams, the Bruins lined up in punt formation, and faked to Mansaray. And less than a minute later punched in for their third touchdown of the half, taking a 33-12 lead. LB shut out the Titans for the remainder of the game, and came out with the win.

“[I feel like we] need to work on converting in the redzone,” Mansaray said.

LB will take on the Woodson Cavaliers at home this Friday, kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

“We’re excited to be coming back home Friday to play in front of our home crowd and the hype squad,” Atkins said.
