Field Hockey suffers loss to Titans
As the sun set over Richard M. Lewis Stadium, Lake Braddock Varsity Field Hockey took on the T.C. Williams Titans at home, hoping to improve its record and carry on its win streak.
The game opened up as a defensive battle, each team holding it own against the other. It wasn’t until three minutes remained in the first half that junior Haley Hopkins opened up scoring, and gave Lake Braddock a 1-0 lead over the Titans.
“I felt really good [after we scored],” Hopkins said. “I was tired of not winning, and it pumped me up.”
Following the score, the Bruins shut out T.C. in the first half, thanks to a save by sophomore goalie Ciara Weets
“I felt really pumped at halftime,” senior Lizzie Fitzpatrick said, “because we were up 1-0, and everyone was being really positive and upbeat.”
Entering the second half, the Titans were shut out for the first 14 minutes. The shut out ended with 15:58 left in regulation, and the game was tied 1-1.
“It’s never a good feeling when another team scores,” Fitzpatrick said, “but I also felt like it was our chance to get more pumped and get the ball back into our net.”
Less than five minutes later, the Titans scored again, a goal by Tatiana Gold. The Titans took a 2-1 lead with 11:12 left in the game. T.C. would go on to win the game, dropping the Bruins to 3-4-1 on the season.
“[We need to work on] connecting more,” Hopkins said. “We played really well as a unit in the last game, but tonight something was just missing.”
LB will face the Oakton Cougars this Friday at home.
