Trader Joe’s is hopping into the new season with a wonderful array of spring treats. Some of these are entirely new concepts, though many draw on previous seasonal ideas. A winter fan favorite, Jingle Jangle, has gotten a colorful redesign this season. The concept is the same, though some of the snacks inside differ this time around. Popcorn has been replaced with peanuts and there are now nonpareils with festive sprinkles in the new Springle Jangle.
Our expectations were low when first encountering this snack as, unlike many Trader Joe’s shoppers, we found the winter Jingle Jangle to be lacking. However, we were pleasantly surprised by the adjustments that have been made to this festive treat. The lack of popcorn makes the mix less dense. This was a major issue with Jingle Jangle. The addition of nuts and removal of more dense treats conveys the feeling of spring that it sets out to. While winter is marked by cold weather and cozy blankets, spring is more often symbolic of lighter things such as new beginnings and the blooming of flowers. The snack reflects this perfectly.
The flavors of each individual component were delightful, and they complement each other well. Despite this, one downside was an abundance of clumping within the mix. Many of the heavier items settle at the bottom so shoppers must eat nearly all lighter pretzels and peanut butter cups before they can make it to the cookie bark. This is easily countered by a quick mix of the bag though, so it is not a major issue.
Trader Joe’s has outdone themselves with this new seasonal twist on an existing treat. We recommend the Trader Joe’s Springle Jangle to anyone who is seeking a light snack or a mood boost as we transition into warmer months.
