Project Soli

Radar making a comeback

The future is cool, guys.  Like, really cool.

Project Soli, headed by Google’s Advanced Technologies and Projects division, is going to change a lot of things. From smartphones, to wearables, laptops and even furniture, the applications of a simple gesture device are nearly limitless. Soli is different from the majority of motion trackers you’ve seen, like the Xbox Kinect or Playstation’s Move. It uses radar to detect gestures rather than a camera lens. Because of this, it can be embedded into materials and even work at night. While this seems like an obscure technology, its impact can be huge. In the future instead of touching our screens, we could wave at them. Like the flick of a magic wand.
