Depression Screening

From March 25 to March 28 depression screening occured for everybody grades 9-10. The screening took place in the lecture hall during gym periods. Students were evaluated on their mental health and asked if anybody they know is at risk. Virginia is one of two states, along with New York, in which mental health screening is required at the high school level. Students’ families had the opportunity to opt out from the screening if they so choose. Theo Varias, sophomore, said,  “It’s a good idea to do, but it’s not that hard for someone who is depressed to just circle answers and fake it.” For more information, contact Alka Howard director, student services at [email protected].
