LB Wins Again, Routs Annandale
by Ian Bivona
After winning their opening game of the year, the Lake Braddock Bruins continued Friday night by traveling to Annandale to take on the Atoms.
The Atoms, who entered the game with a 1-1 record, came off of a crushing 42-0 loss against Centreville. The team combined for less than 100 total yards on offense, and were torn up on defense.
The Bruins on the other hand entered the game 1-0 after beating Lee 63-18. Lake Braddock has over 600 yards on offense, and scored 8 total touchdowns. Senior tailbacks Lamont Atkins and Ibrahim Mansaray lead a strong rushing attack, helped by strong offensive line. Quarterbacks Ty Crabb and Jack Darcy split time playing the position, and each one brings a different skillset to the table.
After shutting out Annandale in the 2015 season, expectations were set at a high level for the Bruins. The team came out strong and met those expectations, as Atkins ran for a touchdown on the first play of the game. The scoring would not stop for Atkins, as he would go on to score two more touchdowns in the first half. The team took a 28-0 lead to the locker room at halftime.
Even though the Bruins came out hot, they weren’t done yet. Mansaray ran back the second half opening kickoff 86 yards for a touchdown, giving LB a 35-0 lead. Another Mansaray touchdown, a field goal by senior kicker Jack Rawlins, and a 26 yard touchdown by sophomore Ben Dizon gave the Bruins a 52-0 lead. A late score by the Atoms ended the shutout, and lead to a final score of 52-7, and another Bruin victory to move to 2-0 on the year.
The Bruins will take on the rival Robinson Rams, next Friday at home. Kickoff is set for 7:00.
