LB Softball continues with undefeated record

April 13, 2016

The LB softball team faced possibly its best competition on Tuesday night, beating rival South County for the fourth straight time. Behind strong at-bats from sophomores Eleanor Mataya and Ally Kurland and senior Caroline Jones, the Bruins were able to provide the defense with much needed run support. Despite a home run from South County in the fifth inning, senior Abby Thibodeau was able to help LB to the 4-1 win.

“We have a lot of underclassmen this year and so it was really good to see everyone pulling strong together,” Jones said. “We are really loud in the dugout, cheering everyone on. I thought Aubrey [Bates] pitched a good game, but we hit consistently up and down the lineup, which I think is good for our team overall. We don’t have people sitting out. Kurland hit a double in her first trip up the plate. Kurland would score on the next play as Jones ripped an RBI double into the outfield to bring the score to 1-0. In her next at-bat, Kurland crushed a home run into right center field, bouncing it off the scoreboard.

“I was just thinking that if I get a good pitch early in the count, I should swing because they were trying to get me outside,” Kurland said. “So once I saw a fastball right down the middle, I decided to swing.”

The Bruins are now 8-0 and in sole possession of first place in the conference.

“I think this really boosts our confidence,” Kurland said. “Now we control our own fate. I think it just lifts a weight off our shoulders that we got this game over with.”

Up next, LB will face off against West Springfield on Friday.
